His life 

Anthony Van Dyck was born in Antwerp in 1599 and died in 1641 in London. He was raised in a prosperous family, he was the 7th of twelve children; his father was a wealthy merchant. His mother died when he was only 8 years old. He was with Rubens, his master, the main representative of Flemish Baroque painting.  He started his studies at the age of ten with Hendrick Van Balen, and was working by himself at sixteen and already had an apprentice. When he was nineteen he entered the Antwerp painters' Guild of Saint Luke .

Ein berühmter Portraitmaler von Koblenz zur Zeit des Barocks war Heinrich Foelix, der 1732 in Pfaffendorf bei Ehrenbreitstein (Koblenz) geboren wurde. Sein Vater, Johann Conrad Foelix, war seit 1730 kurtrierischer Amtsbote am Hofe in Ehrenbreitstein. Bis zu seinem Auftauchen am Hof in Ehrenbreitstein ist nichts zur Ausbildung Foelix’ bekannt. Er wurde erst seit 1755 am Hof geführt, wo er einige Portraitaufträge für den derzeitigen Kurfürsten Franz Georg von Schönborn ausführte. Nur ein Jahr später in 1756 erhielt er durch den neuen Kurfürsten Johann Phillip von Walderdorff, welcher ein großer Förderer Foelix’ war, ein Stipendium für eine malerische Ausbildung in Paris. Dieses trat er bereits Ende 1756 an.
