Frydryc Chopin. His life and Letters

"It has been said that as a pianist Chopin had neither predecessor nor successor. The same might be applied to him as a composer. As far as any artist whether artist in words, in colours, or in tones ever stands alone, Chopin can lay claim to that position by his independence and originality. Supreme in delicacy and finish, it was his distinctive achievement to have attained greatness in the smallest forms." (Source: Translator's Preface: Frydryc Chopin. His life and Letters, by Moritz Karasowski, 1859. Translated by Emily Hill).

Early Letters Of Robert Schumann (1888). Original published by his wife

"In publishing the following letters was that those who love and honour Schumann as an artist might also learn to know him as a man. Unfortunately the world knows more of his peculiarities than of his character, since he was intimate with but very few, though to those dearest to him, he opened his heart without reserve. These letters therefore form a beautiful memorial, revealing all the treasures of an ideal youthful nature, strong and energetic, and filled with the highest aims and aspirations." (Source: Translator's Preface: Early Letters Of Robert Schumann (1888). Original published by his wife. Translated by May Herbert. London: George Bell & Sons)

Antonin Dvořák Letters And Reminiscences (1954), by Otakar Sourek

"This collection of documents, the contents and names of the authors of which are themselves sufficient evidence of what outstanding contemporaries Dvořák counted among his friends and how high these personalities valued his art, brings out the unique nature of the events and circumstances of Dvořák's life
and delineates his personal traits with all the greater warmth, conviction and interest the farther the idea was from the writers' minds, that these reminiscences and letters would one day
fulfil such a mission." (Source: Translator's introduction: Antonin Dvořák Letters And Reminiscences (1954), by Otakar Sourek. Translated from Czech by Roberta Finlay).

Selected Correspondence of Fryderyc Chopin

"The correspondence of Chopin may be divided into two main groups : Polish and French. In the former group are the letters exchanged between him and his family (apart from those from his father, who wrote in French) and his intimate Polish friends. To the latter group belong those to and from his acquaintances in the social world of Paris and his business correspondence with publishers." (Source: The translator's introduction: Selected Correspondence of Fryderyc Chopin. By  Bronislaw Edward Sydow, 1952. Translated and Edited  by Arthur Hedley, 1962. Heinnemann, London).

Serge Prokofiev Diary 1907-1933. Website Sprkfv.net

"A private publication from the Serge Prokofiev Estate, this amazing document (in Russian) spans 26 years of Prokofiev's daily life (1907 - 1933), opening up the composer's experiences and private thoughts during some of the most critical years of his life. Prokofiev is one of the twentieth-century composers who has most suffered from factual inaccuracy in Western literature. The Diary, which often includes daily entries, will become an invaluable source of reliable information for future research and publications. It also makes fascinating and entertaining reading!" Letters of Franz Liszt. Produced by John Mamoum e.a..

The letters were selected by La Mara, and translated into English by Constance Bache. The edition used was an original 1893 Charles Scribner edition, printed in America. Each page was cut out of it and fed into an Automatic DocumentScanner to make this e-text; hence, the original book was fragmented in order to save it.
