In order to award the endeavours of those persons who through their effort and dedication have contributed to a better knowledge and dissemination of the cultural, scientific and historical values of Europe, and/or to the unification of the European Union, the European Academy of Yuste Foundation establishes the 'Charles Vth European Award'.
The name of the 'Charles Vth European Award' comes from the European ties of this outstanding personage of our history. He was born in Ghent (Belgium), from German and Spanish grandparents and parents, and crowned Emperor in Aachen. Subsequently he abdicated in Brussels, renouncing temporal power and retiring to the Monastery of Yuste, where he spent the last few years of his life.
The 'Charles Vth European Award' will be awarded by the Board of Trustees of the European Academy of Yuste Foundation, following the proposal made by a Jury appointed by the Board of Trustees for the purpose and composed of prestigious figures in various sociocultural fields in Europe.
