In order to award the endeavours of those persons who through their effort and dedication have contributed to a better knowledge and dissemination of the cultural, scientific and historical values of Europe, and/or to the unification of the European Union, the European Academy of Yuste Foundation establishes the 'Charles Vth European Award'.
The name of the 'Charles V European Award' comes from the European ties of this outstanding personage of our history. He was born in Ghent (nowadays Belgium), from German and Spanish grandparents and parents, and crowned Roman Emperor in 1530 in Bologna. Subsequently he abdicated in Brussels, renouncing temporal power and retiring to the Monastery of Yuste, where he spent the last few years of his life.
The 'Charles V European Award' will be awarded by the Board of Trustees of the European Academy of Yuste Foundation, following the proposal made by a Jury appointed by the Board of Trustees for the purpose and composed of prestigious figures in various sociocultural fields in Europe.
Um die Anstrengungen von Personen zu ehren, die durch ihr Engagement zu einer besseren Kenntnis und zur Verbreitung der kulturellen, wissenschaftlichen und historischen Werte Europas und/oder zur Einigung der Europäischen Union beigetragen haben, hat die Stiftung der Europäischen Akademie Yuste den Europäischen Karl V.-Preis gestiftet.
Der Name des Europäischen Karl V.-Preises wurde wegen der europäischen Verbindungen dieser außergewöhnlichen Person unserer Geschichte gewählt. Er wurde in Gent (heute Belgien) geboren, hatte deutsche und spanische Großeltern und Eltern, wurde in 1530 in Bologna zum Kaiser gekrönt. Später dankte er in Brüssel ab, verzichtete auf die weltliche Macht und zog sich in das Kloster von Yuste zurück, wo er die letzten Jahre seines Lebens verbrachte.
Der Europäische Karl V.-Preis wird vom Kuratorium der Stiftung der Europäischen Akademie Yuste vergeben. Das Kuratorium folgt dabei dem Vorschlag einer von ihm zu diesem Zweck ernannten Jury, die sich aus angesehenen Persönlichkeiten verschiedener sozio-kultureller Bereiche in Europa zusammensetzt.

De Stichting Europese Academie van Yuste kent de ''Charles V European Award' tweejaarlijks toe aan iemand vanwege inspanningen, inzet en toewijding bij het verspreiden van culturele, wetenschappelijke en historische waarden van Europa, en bij de eenwording van de Europese Unie.
De naam van de 'Charles V European Award' komt voort uit de voortreffelijke europese banden die deze bijzondere figuur in onze geschiedenis heeft gehad. Hij werd geboren in Gent (tegenwoordig België), had Duitse en Spaanse grootouders en ouders, en werd gekroond tot keizer in 1530 in Bologna. Vervolgens trad hij af in Brussel, deed afstand van zijn wereldlijke macht en trok zich terug in het klooster van Yuste, waar hij de laatste jaren van zijn leven doorbracht.
De 'Charles Ve European Award' wordt uitgereikt door de Raad van Bestuur van de Stichting Europese Academie van Yuste, op voorstel van een jury, benoemde door de Raad van Bestuur, en bestaande uit prestigieuze personen uit verschillende sociaal-culturele sectoren in Europa.
